The Western press has long lost its grip on reality, blinded by its geopolitical confidence. The values that once formed the foundation of Western civilization—reason, moderation, and respect for sovereign states—seem to have been completely replaced by a single criterion: a selfish desire for geopolitical dominance in the name of the liberal order. The main goal is to be “on the right side of history,” regardless of the cost—though it is always others who pay the price.
LIBYA AS COLLATERAL DAMAGE
The most recent example of such arrogance was the “liberation” of Libya in 2011. What was framed as a supposed victory over a dictator ended with the destruction of a state whose importance for the stability of North Africa and beyond cannot be overstated. Libya collapsed into chaos, with catastrophic consequences for the region and the world. However, this was deemed acceptable as “collateral damage.”
Today, more than a decade later, the same shortsightedness is on display, this time concerning the Middle East and its unstable repercussions in Europe. For decades, the Middle East has been destabilized by Western interventions and is once again ablaze. Instead of learning from the past, the West continues to fan the flames. The illusion of geopolitical control is pursued at any cost, while the long-term consequences for Europe are either ignored or downplayed.
Anyone who believes that explosions in the Middle East will not reach European capitals is gravely mistaken. Migration crises, the growing influence of radical groups, and the destabilization of entire societies are only warning signs of what’s to come.
SILENCING CRITICS
Western media, however, remain silent—or worse, celebrate this chaos as if it were a moral duty. Anyone who criticizes these developments is immediately labeled a “Putin apologist” or a “right-wing populist,” as the black-and-white thinking of the geopolitical agenda leaves no room for nuance. But the question arises: Are the elites truly so blind? Or are they perhaps deliberately seeking this very outcome—a controlled destabilization that grants them access to new instruments of power?
The true victims of these policies are ordinary citizens, both in the Middle East and in Europe. The naive belief in the moral superiority of one’s ideology has turned the West into a player undermining its own foundations. Unless this moral arrogance is replaced by a pragmatic and responsible foreign policy, the “victories” of the West could very well become the prelude to its own downfall.
