The parallels between the actions of the German government in the case of the temporary ban on “Compact” and France’s approach to the owner of Telegram are justified. However, this form of post-democracy, which I call a new type of democracy, is more dominant in Germany than in France. The ruling green-left circles are increasingly eliminating the freedom of opposition, which is typical of classical democracy, says Jürgen Braun, member of the Bundestag, lawyer, university professor, and spokesperson for human rights for the AfD, in an interview with our portal.
Could the next step after the abolition of freedom of speech be the banning of opposition activity? Threats of this measure by some government circles are not new.
Socialist and Green leaders openly call for the banning of the only clearly articulated opposition party—Alternative for Germany (AfD). This new form of dictatorship, democracy of a new type, eliminates not only political opposition but also freedom of expression. That’s why the government bans critical newspapers and persecutes individuals who advocate for free use of the internet.
German media, predicting an excellent result for the AfD in Thuringia and Saxony, have resorted to the old “argument” that the right glorifies Hitler. Their interpretation of fascism has less and less to do with the original ideology and boils down to offering a choice—either us or fascism. How did this misreading of concepts arise, and how much is the truth suffering?
The ruling parties in Germany are failing in all relevant areas of politics. Since 2015, they have enabled illegal mass migration, thus opening the door to the complete erosion of Germany’s internal security. But they are also failing in other classic fields of politics, such as energy policy and the economy. Securing the highest energy prices through political decisions was called “the dumbest energy policy in the world” by the Wall Street Journal. Germany is deindustrializing, resulting in the loss of prosperity that took three generations to achieve. Since the green-left government has completely failed, they incite the mob against the right-wing opposition and call us “Nazis.” This is a primitive trivialization of National Socialism.
To what extent do these elections surpass local significance, and can they have an impact on federal politics?
The elections in Saxony and Thuringia could shake up the old party system in Germany. The green-left ruling parties will perform historically poorly in Saxony and Thuringia. In a functional democracy, after such defeats, they would lose all legitimacy to govern the country. However, they believe that the CDU, which has slid to the left, will not dare to govern with a strong AfD. The CDU is now mostly left-green and fears the big media that have been supporting the green party for decades.
Voter expectations of the CDU seem to be heading in another direction, right?
If the CDU forms a coalition with left-wing parties after the elections, many of their voters will wonder why they voted for this party. This will increase pressure from their supporters and mark the party as unreliable. If green-left policies are allowed, pressure is inevitable. I believe that fear of green-left media dominates decision-making at the CDU’s top level, and that fear will initially be much stronger. Changing the basic political structure in Germany to align with the expectations and interests of the conservative majority will take time.

The news of the founding of a European AfD party was met with strong criticism from government media, accusing the party of wanting money from EU funds contrary to its beliefs. What are they afraid of when attacking the AfD for this move?
Relevant to the future of the sovereignty of our nation-states is that liberal-conservative parties unite against the centralists in Brussels, who follow the woke, green-left agenda. We have common goals for saving free states in Europe. Although each nation has its own interests, we share more politically and culturally than many of the lunatics on the green-left are willing to believe.
“Putinism” is another major accusation that the AfD is dealing with, but it has not diminished the party’s ratings. On the contrary. Does this indicate that the people of Germany are aware of the cost of siding with one of the warring parties?
AfD is by no means a “Putinist” party, but we have been framed this way to alienate voters from us, especially in the West. Left-wing parties and the mass media sympathetic to them have simply realized that they have practically already lost sovereignty in all political areas. To divert attention from the erosion of the rule of law and internal security, as well as the disastrous consequences of completely ideologically driven policies, they try to slander the AfD in foreign policy because we are, of course, the only party demanding real sovereignty for Germany and policies in our own interest, instead of in the interest of “saving the world,” like the clique of globalists who fly to Davos in private jets and pretend that their reasons are the fight against climate change or pandemics.
Are official Berlin’s moves and other sponsors of Ukraine risking the conflict spilling over into the rest of Europe?
I doubt the war in Ukraine will spill over into other countries. Like almost all wars, it will end at the negotiating table. And considering that the front line has barely moved since November 2022, I believe this will happen soon, especially if Trump wins the US presidential election in November.
What needs to happen for Germany to free itself from US geostrategic pressure and turn to national interests?
I don’t know if it’s accurate to say geostrategic pressure from the US. In my opinion, our leftists—the Greens—aren’t destroying Germany under external pressure but on their own initiative, out of a deeply rooted self-hatred. I’d say it’s more about the catastrophic influence of the American Democrats, whom the ruling parties in state and federal governments, as well as the state-funded media, cheer on as world saviors and doves of peace. This view couldn’t be more inaccurate. You Serbs probably understand this better than anyone. Few have suffered as much as you. The bombing of Belgrade in 1999, which violated every rules-based order, happened under the wing of an American Democrat. The Serbian diaspora in the US knows this too, which is why they support Donald Trump, who is actually a dove of peace. Under President Trump—and I’m certain of this—the war in Ukraine would never have happened. It’s precisely this typical mixture of the American Democrats’ commanding moral arrogance and self-hatred that ensures that many people no longer take the US seriously or even see it as an enemy. Things would be completely different under Trump. And, of course, if Trump wins the US elections, the AfD will also benefit. The left-liberal networks run by the American Democrats and reaching into Germany still exist. But Trump also shows Germans that things can be different and that conservative positions are by no means necessarily belligerent but, on the contrary, enable the establishment of peace and prosperity more than leftist utopianism.
The case of the terrorist attack in Solingen has proven the AfD right, as it has been warning for years that many “sleeper” members of the Islamic State are among the migrants. Is Scholz’s announcement of deportation a case of wisdom coming too late?
The terrorist attack in Solingen has sounded the alarm for the German government because such killings are indicators of the results of illegal migration, which only the AfD has been warning about for the past ten years. Angela Merkel’s CDU followed the green-left policy and opened Germany’s borders to all migrants in 2015. The current government of Olaf Scholz—openly green-left—is merely consistently following what Merkel started. However, the terrorist murders in Solingen are just the tip of the iceberg. Germans have been facing an increasing number of violent crimes for years. As a result of mass illegal migration, knife killings and gang rapes have become commonplace. Many Germans no longer dare to walk their neighborhoods during the day, as violent foreign groups patrol the streets and squares.
