A nationalist activist since his youth, Goia has given countless public speeches and organised numerous actions in his home country of Romania. He has also recently made guest appearances on international platforms, such as radio shows in Serbia and conferences in Finland, highlighting the emerging significance of independent grassroots movements within Europe’s nationalist scene, rather than established political parties.

Hello, Codrin, and thank you so much for agreeing to this interview with us here at Eagle Eye Explore. We always appreciate hearing voices from our brotherly neighbours to the east, across the Danube. Now, first things first, could you please tell our audience about your movement and what it stands for?

Hello, Stefan, and thank you for this opportunity! The Identitarian Community (Comunitatea Identitară) is a Romanian nationalist youth organisation. We fight for the rights and interests of the Romanian people in our country and wherever they are in the world. We struggle for the spiritual, cultural and material development of our people. Also, it is very important to us to contribute to the creation of a Christian nationalist elite that can make a real change in Romania.

In recent years – more specifically, over the past 10 years or so – across Europe, independent grassroots movements have been rising in popularity, as an alternative to political parties. Why do you think this is the case?

We believe that nationalism must predominate in mainstream politics, yet we are far from that moment in Europe. But we also believe that in order to have a nationalist regime and true revolutionary nationalism – not lame and useless conservatism – we must first control the culture and impose a nationalist mentality among our people. This is something that nationalist movements can do a lot easier than political organisations, which have to deal with party and electoral politics. Once nationalism becomes mainstream, once the people have a true sense of identity and pride, once they know what their interest is, only then can true nationalists be able to fulfil their mission on the political scene.

Speaking of rising popularity, not only does your movement, the Identitarian Community Romania, enjoy a presence across your home nation of Romania, but you yourself have also made guest appearances on foreign platforms, such as Serbian and Finnish. Do you believe that your movement and the causes for which you campaign can also inspire and be emulated by other similar nationalist movements across Europe?

Our goal is to fight for the interests of the Romanian people, for both spiritual and material needs. Yet we believe that there is a sense of sympathy among all European nationalists, among all those who fight for their nation and land. Today, the threats we face are mostly the same: mass immigration, demographic crises, the destruction of our identity, the EU turning our countries into colonies, neo-Marxist extremism and traitorous politicians. This is why nationalist movements from different countries must be united and collaborate, not to mention the common European heritage that all our people share. If nationalists from European lands and beyond will take example from Comunitatea Identitară (the Identitarian Community) and from other Romanian organisations – both from the present and the past – remains to be seen, and it’s entirely up to them. But as we also learn a lot from others, we can tell you that they have quite a lot to learn from us.

Now for some more difficult questions, while still respecting the new laws in your home country – the so-called “anti-hate speech laws”. Are these really anti-hate speech laws, or is there something else – other motives – behind these new state policies?

In the last few years, freedom of speech and human rights became a bad joke in Romania. Several laws have been passed by Parliament that prohibit Romanians to express any opinion that is positive about the Legionary Movement [the Iron Guard] and personalities that were part of it, about a lot of people that many Romanians consider to be saints and heroes. These laws are also meant to stop people from criticising anyone who is part of a minority, from stating politically incorrect opinions, or from speaking freely about certain historical events. These are all anti-Romanian laws – censorship laws – that were made by our enemies in order to have innocent people arrested and imprisoned for years, because they do not agree with what they say and think. These new communists are also afraid of ideas different from what they were indoctrinated with. Comunitatea Identitară was the first organisation to start a campaign for the abrogation of these corrupt laws that go against our Constitution. We are always speaking against the injustice caused by them and protesting in the streets against the evil that they cause. All Romanian nationalists are fighting for freedom and to have these communist laws repealed. One day, we will win and freedom will rule!

Many of these new anti-hate speech laws have been compared in their draconian nature to those we see in countries such as Germany. While Germany has, since the end of the Second World War, viewed patriotic and traditionalist ideologies and sentiments as extremely taboo – and even illegal, in many cases – Romanian society is quite the opposite. Romanian society is still very much strongly patriotic and traditionalist. How does the general population of Romania view these new laws, from the political left, centre and right?

In December 2025, before the last such law was voted by the traitors in Parliament, Silviu Vexler – the Jewish representative in the Champer of Deputies and the proponent of that law, known as the Vexler Law – ripped a poster with the pictures of very important Romanian cultural personalities. The people were outraged! It was proven then, without a doubt, that such norms were born from hatred against us, and those who support them are anti-Romanian extremists. Even before that, the anti-Legionary law and other so-called laws for combating anti-Semitism led to the following abuses:

Almost two dozen people are on trial for commemorating Corneliu Zelea Codreanu [founder and leader of the historical Romanian Iron Guard movement] during one Orthodox service in November 2024. They had their doors broken by Special Police and their homes searched, while being taken away for interrogation. Some of them were minors. They were accused of doing the Legionary salute, similar to the Roman salute.

The nationalist sculptor and militant, Eugen Sechila, was investigated and was on trial for building a wooden Cross in a village, that has at its base a symbol considered by the authorities to be the triple cross of the Iron Guard. That symbol is a traditional Romanian symbol for thousands of years before the Legion.

A nationalist blogger, Cătălin Dănoiu, got sentenced to two years of probation after putting some nationalist stickers on the street, and he is not allowed to post anything online. A young man also got a year and two months of probation for selling t-shirts with a quote of Corneliu Zelea Codreanu. What was the quote about? Killing Jews? Hating Gypsies? Beating up homosexuals? No! It was a quote encouraging people to be honourable. But the system has no virtues!

Then, a 17-year-old boy had the door of his home broken by police (he lives with his parents) and was taken to a police station to another city for interrogation. He had to spend a night in jail with drug dealers and is now under probation. He has no income, but is forced to pay for travel to that city weekly to report to the police for his probation. What evil thing did he do? He displayed a national flag with Codreanu’s portrait on December 1st, the National Day of Romania!

An engineer, Alexandru Balcu, a man who accomplished much in life, was taken away by the police. They searched his apartment and pointed a gun at his head. He was not violent. He gave them no such reason. It was just intimidation. For what? He put three stickers with a portrait of Codreanu on the door of a synagogue. The building is guarded 24/7 by law enforcement and secret services. Why did he do it? As a form of protest for the injustice caused by these anti-Romanian laws.

Also, a few years ago, Vasile Zărnescu, a nationalist writer, was on trial for publishing a book about the Holocaust, in which he had a very different opinion from the official one about the event. He only got a warning, but that was before the persecution started in late 2024. He would have been sentenced to prison if his trial was today.

I offered just a few examples, but there are a lot more. Each time such abuses take place, the Romanian people are waking up. We won our freedom with the blood of hundreds of thousands of heroes who fought against communism, and we will let no one take it away! The only ones that support this Stalinist legislation are neo-Marxist useful idiots, for which stupidity and hatred of their own nation are virtues. Their opinions will end up in the garbage dump of history anyway.

Are you concerned and/or worried about how these new laws could negatively affect the Identitarian Community and your patriotic activities in Romania?

Although we fight for the abolition of these terrorist laws and criticise those responsible for them, we respect the law and we do not encourage anyone to break it, even if it’s an unjust legislation we are dealing with. Not 1,000 communist laws, the Elie Wiesel Institute (responsible for taking legal action against innocent Romanians) and its director, the Bolshevik Alexandru Florian, not thousands of more abuses, will be able to break the spirit of the Romanian people. They know who their heroes and saints are and who did a lot of good for this country! But we advise everyone to be smart and wise, not to fall in the traps of the system! As long as we still have the freedom to speak against anti-Romanianism, we will do so. But we must ask the question – for how long will this be possible?

Of course, if you are able to – and if it does not put yourself and your movement at risk of “state intervention” – could you explain to us, as a foreign audience, the significance of what is arguably the main inspiration behind the creation of your ideology and movement? A certain historical movement in Romania, if you are, of course, able to talk about it.

For us as Romanian nationalists, when it comes to our creed (something superior and way more than an ideology), the following things are sacred pillars – faith in God, love for our nation, devotion to the Fatherland, respect for tradition, comradeship, honouring our ancestors, taking action (believing that words are never enough) and following tradition. By believing in these principles and acting on them, we walk the path on which all our ancestors, that did great deeds for the nationalist-Christian cause, once stepped! One day, when victory is achieved, Romanians will speak freely about the Legion of the Archangel Michael, about its leader, Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, about other legionaries, like Ion Moța, Vasile Marin, Horia Sima, Valeriu Gafencu, Radu Gyr, George Manu, Sterie Ciumeti, Ioan Ianolide, Mircea Vulcănescu, Ion Banea, Ilie Tudor, General Gheorghe Cantacuzino and many others. People will also speak freely about other personalities that they consider heroes, like Mihai Eminescu (our national poet and father of modern Romanian nationalism), Octavian Goga, Father Dumitru Stăniloaie (the greatest theologian of the 20th century, canonized by the Romanian Orthodox Church last year), Nichifor Crainic, Ioan Slavici and a lot more people that a majority of Romanians consider great. But for now, we do not live in a free country. We are fighting for that, and no matter how much it takes, we will never give up!

Onto some lighter topics now, to “cleanse the palette”, as the saying goes. Romania is a nation with an incredibly rich and proud history and heritage. How do you yourself and the Identitarian Community as a movement use Romanian history and heritage as inspiration in your ideology and activism?

It is extremely important for any nationalist to have a basic understanding and knowledge of national and universal history. Knowing our history, traditions and culture is understanding our heritage. This is very important, as we need to experience our identity daily. Without knowing who we are, our enemies can model our souls and minds to serve their evil interests. Our movement works on educating the youth to embrace Christianity and nationalism, to love tradition and have a deep understanding of our culture. As a true traditionalist, one must constantly aim to always educate himself and become better. Our struggle is eternal, and becoming superior people is our duty for better serving the cause we live for.

Sticking to the topic of history, even today, Romania still feels the effects of the aftermath of the fall of communism. Politically, do you feel that the political establishment of Romania still holds on to some elements of the old communist regime?

Almost all political parties have former members of the PCR (the Romanian Communist Party) among their ranks. Most mainstream parties are ideological and practical descendants of the communists. Most of those who are an exception from this rule adopted neo-Marxist policies. We talked about the Stalinist laws that were imposed in Romania recently, so the shadow of communism is still here. But under the EU, it just uses a humane mask. As true nationalists, we are against communism in all its forms!

As a Romanian nationalist movement, what are your stances towards the European Union and NATO, considering how significant a role Romania plays in both blocs?

In Romania, the European Union dictates political decisions and NATO dictates military decisions. We must achieve true independence and have an elite that has the primary goal of following our own interests, not those of foreign powers. We need true leaders, not slaves. The EU is the modern reincarnation of the USSR, but disguised under the veil of democracy. We hope it has the same fate as the Soviet Union – disintegration! NATO had its purpose, but we must not be pawns of this alliance. Romania joined NATO in 2004 to be protected from Russia, but, in 1997, we were forced by them (if we wanted to become members) to sign a border treaty with Ukraine, recognising Romanian lands that were given to them as a present by the Soviets as belonging to this country. What respect is this? An alliance to defend against Russia forces us to give up territories stolen by the USSR? What a bad joke! Also, we must not allow NATO to drag us into the wars that the USA start. It is only a defensive alliance. We really need strong leaders and to be our own masters!

There has been much talk about the ever-growing prospect of Moldova reuniting with Romania. In fact, leading politicians from both countries are taking such a scenario very seriously. Do you believe that Moldova will reunite with Romania in the coming years?

We hope so! The achievement of this rightful union is just a matter of time. Most people in Romania want our two countries to become one. In Basarabia, things are more complicated after decades of Soviet occupation, communism, the extermination of Romanian elites, the invention of the false Moldavian nation (a Stalinist pseudo-historical theory) and a lot of lies about Romania. But now, the youth in Basarabia are waking up, and more people want to unite with the Fatherland, at the same time rediscovering their Romanian identity. Comunitatea Identitară and all Romanian nationalists, on both sides of the Prut River (the border between Romania and Basarabia), are fighting for unification. The petty interests of politicians from both states that go against our national destiny will be crushed, and this objective will be fulfilled.

Moldova is not the only territory that was once an integral part of the Romanian nation. With the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War likely to end with Ukraine ceding territory to Russia, Northern Bucovina and the Budjak region of the Odessa Oblast – both currently part of Ukraine – were also once crucial parts of Romania, prior to the Soviet Union’s occupation of both regions. Do you believe that the war in Ukraine could potentially lead to both Northern Bucovina and Budjak also being returned to Romania?

At this point, no one can say for certain how the Russo-Ukrainian War will end and predict the future. The north of Bucovina and the south of Basarabia are Romanian lands that were part of Greater Romania, before Russia annexed them. We want those areas to be part of Romania again. But the first step is unification with the Republic of Moldova, which still has an ethnic Romanian majority. Once we achieve that, we can work on reunifying with other lands that were part of Greater Romania.

Of course, no discussion about nationalism can be complete without tackling the issue that is immigration. Many people outside of the Balkans – especially in the West – view the Balkans as a bastion against mass immigration, multiculturalism, LGBT ideology, etc. What is Romania’s current situation regarding these particular issues?

In the last few years, our corrupt and traitorous government – as well as greedy business owners, under the sinister influence of the European Union – have brought hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Asia and Africa to Romania. As their numbers grow and they get used here, we are expecting a rise in criminality. Decades from now, their numbers will increase even more if they bring their families, have a lot of children here, and more are allowed to settle in our country. They can easily become a demographic threat. Romania must learn from the negative experience the West has with immigration. We must encourage remigration, to have them return to their own countries. If there is a lack of workers, the state should invest in bringing home at least a part of the 6 million Romanians that they forced to leave the country, due to the destruction of our economy that politicians caused, and also to come up with a demographic policy to support Romanian families with many children. Also, bringing immigrants in this country is against our Constitution, that clearly states that the colonisation of Romania with foreign populations is forbidden. To import them here, especially after what we see happened in Western Europe with immigrants, is to go against the will of the Romanian people.

To close off this interview on a light-hearted note, Serbia and Romania have traditionally maintained extremely friendly and brotherly relations with one another. Even despite ongoing issues affecting both of our nations, how do you, especially as a Romanian nationalist, view Serbia-Romania relations?

Serbia is a nation with which we have a lot in common – our Christian Orthodox faith; there are a lot of cultural similarities; we share a history of struggle against the Islamic Ottoman Empire, Austro-Hungarian Empire and against communism. I have visited Serbia several times, and it’s a country where I truly feel like in Europe, unlike in Western countries, that were destroyed by multiculturalism. There is a lot of mutual respect and collaboration among Romanian and Serbian nationalists. We Romanians view Kosovo as part of Serbia and the existence of that so-called state as an injustice against your people and country. Serbian nationalists have the same view when it comes to the Republic of Moldova – they consider it Romanian land. I heard a lot of people from both countries saying that the only good neighbours they have are each other. In the future, we hope that the Serbian state will recognise the rights of the Romanian minority in Timok (the region in Eastern Serbia) to education, culture and church services in their own language. The Serbian minority in Romania has its rights recognised by the state, and everyone sees the Serbian minority in Romania as good people that cause no trouble and have a splendid relation with Romanians.
