In December 2021, no one in Serbia or the Balkans noticed the news that the “Independent Uyghur Tribunal,” arranged by the so-called World Uyghur Congress, which, as is not even hidden, is also arranged by the American National Endowment for Democracy (NED)—an organization tied to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)—issued a “verdict” claiming that the government of the People’s Republic of China “committed genocide and crimes against humanity against Uyghurs and other Muslims in East Turkestan (also known as the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang).”
“This is yet another urgent reminder to the United Nations (UN) and all signatory states of the 1948 Genocide Convention to fulfill their legal and moral obligations under international law, to stop this ongoing genocide, and to bring those responsible for these crimes to justice,” stated the organizers of the “trial.”
CIA IN WHITE GLOVES
Two years earlier, the so-called World Uyghur Congress received the NED’s Democracy Award, an organization, as mentioned, well-known globally as the CIA in “white gloves.” This is evidenced by the multimillion-dollar grants that NED, along with other U.S. agencies, provides each year to the so-called World Uyghur Congress, as well as by very precise statements from NED officials.
Here is one of them:
“Thanks to the support of NED, Uyghur human rights organizations continue to play key roles in raising awareness and garnering support from various stakeholders,” said Akram Keram, Senior Program Manager and Regional Expert at NED. “From the adoption of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act in the U.S. to the recognition of genocide by seven national parliaments worldwide, the constant activism of these organizations has been crucial.”
ANTI-CHINA TRUBUNAL
The alleged genocide committed by China against the Uyghurs, orchestrated by the so-called World Uyghur Congress, was recognized through resolutions passed by the U.S. (2021) and six of its satellites: the United Kingdom (2021), Canada (2021), the Czech Republic (2021), Lithuania (2021), the Netherlands (2022), and Belgium (2022).
The fake trial against China, held before a “tribunal” de facto established by the CIA to carry out American interests via the so-called World Uyghur Congress, enjoyed broad logistical support from the U.S. and its closest allies.
At the head of this “tribunal,” established against China, was, as we in Serbia or the Republic of Srpska could relatively easily guess, Sir Geoffrey Nice, a key actor in the trials before the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, who, among other things, was a prosecutor in the unfinished case against President Slobodan Milošević.
The anti-China tribunal was composed of eight “neutral” experts from the non-governmental sector.
On the NED website, it is easy to read that it is a “quasi-legal body that investigates, assesses, and renders verdicts on human rights violations that states or international organizations are unable to adequately resolve.”
GEOFFREY NICE – MAN WITH RICH EXPERIENCE
That this is in fact a trial against China directed by NED is clearly shown by the fact, transparently noted on the NED website, that in addition to the staff of the so-called World Uyghur Congress, support for the “Uyghur Tribunal” came from other recipients of NED financial grants: “Uyghur Transitional Justice Database,” “Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project,” “Campaign for Uyghurs,” and the “Uyghur Human Rights Project.”
Supported by the experience Geoffrey Nice gained at the Hague Tribunal, which turned the legal interpretation of the term “genocide” into a vague concept suitable for shaping according to Western geopolitical needs, the “Uyghur Tribunal” held “public hearings” in June, September, and November of 2021. In rendering its “verdict” against China, this quasi-legal body stated that the Chinese government, through alleged measures to prevent the birth of Uyghurs in “East Turkestan,” had committed genocide and additional crimes against humanity.
Despite the influence the United States has in the world, the number of countries that have supported the work and decisions of the “Uyghur Tribunal” remains more than negligible.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ISLAM AND ISLAMISM
In the previous text dedicated to the session of the so-called World Uyghur Congress in Sarajevo, the capital of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, since the other entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH)—the Republic of Srpska—strongly distanced itself from this anti-China gathering, the author of these lines precisely outlined the facts that challenge the claims of the so-called World Uyghur Congress.
China does not deny that after a deadly series of terrorist attacks by Uyghur Islamist separatists, it established educational centers where participants were required to learn the Chinese language and distinguish between Islam and Islamism. Particularly, Islamism aimed at overthrowing the state.
On the other hand, the claim of the World Uyghur Congress, which was also mentioned in the previous text, that a “genocide” is being carried out against the Uyghurs in China, is contradicted by the fact that their numbers have multiplied in recent decades.
If we pay attention to some testimonies concerning, for example, sexual harassment, even as laypersons, we can conclude that this concerns potential individual criminal responsibility and cannot be used as an argument to justify terrorist actions or politically enforce the idea of separating the Chinese Autonomous Region of Xinjiang from the People’s Republic of China.
IN THE MIDST, THERE IS SOMETHING ELSE
One poignant example is the testimony of C. S., who taught Chinese in several educational camps. She claims that, although she was approaching retirement, she was first “pressured” to undergo sterilization, and after she refused, providing what she described as proof that she had performed her job well, she was eventually allowed to leave with a passport and moved, if I recall correctly, to the Netherlands.
Her claim that she was sexually harassed, even abused, in her own home is a matter that should be thoroughly investigated, as should similar claims made by others. However, as disturbing as this may be, and deserving of condemnation, it is not evidence of genocide.
The issue at hand is something else.
Following such a “legal” matrix, accusations can be leveled against almost any country, and a verdict for “genocide” can even be delivered with minimal effort.
THE CROWN EVIDENCE OF “GENOCIDE”
Let us recall the claims made by Western media about the hundreds of thousands of Muslim women (today Bosniaks) raped in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and later, Albanian women in Kosovo and Metohija.
The figures of hundreds of thousands of raped Muslim women in Bosnia and Kosovo and Metohija were the key evidence for “genocide.” However, when it was revealed that the actual number of raped women in the wars in Bosnia and during the suppression of terrorist activities by Albanian separatists in Kosovo and Metohija was much lower, and that these crimes were not carried out by just one side, this kind of “argumentation” about the “genocide” was simply erased from public discourse.
However, as stated in an article published in China, no matter how harsh China’s anti-terrorism measures may have been, they are incomparable to the measures taken by the United States, which have never been accused of genocide or other war crimes.
“According to various estimates, the American ‘war on terror’ claimed half a million lives in Afghanistan and Iraq, and many more in Pakistan, Syria, and Libya. In Iraq, the conflict is estimated to have caused 200,000 civilian deaths, the vast majority of whom were women and children, meaning the number of casualties among Iraqi forces was in a five-to-one ratio.
A TORRENT OF ANGER FROM WESTERN MEDIA
Nevertheless, the U.S. later admitted—in reports from the Senate Intelligence Committee—that they had no evidence that Iraq had any connection to the September 11 attacks, that it provided asylum to al-Qaeda, or possessed weapons of mass destruction. Many innocent lives were lost in vain.”
In contrast to the American “war on terror,” it seems that China’s campaign against terrorism has been successful. Since 2017, there have been no reports of terrorist attacks.
It is truly astonishing that China has managed to curb terrorism, a notoriously difficult problem to resolve anywhere in the world, without causing such collateral damage. This aspect is almost never mentioned in the torrent of anger coming from Western media.
NOT A WORD ABOUT THE FATE OF BLACK WOMEN
“Now the U.S. accuses China of genocide, without any evidence. Doesn’t China have the right to accuse America of double standards?” This was noted in an article by Wei Jijian Shan titled “Xinjiang: What the West Didn’t Tell You About China’s War on Terror,” published three years ago.
Here, a few additional facts regarding American double standards should also be added.
Some relevant data show that in the U.S., 19.3% of women have experienced some form of sexual violence. Moreover, the rate of sexual violence against African American women in the U.S. is significantly higher than that against women from other groups.
Black women in the U.S. are at least two to three times more likely to be raped than women from other groups. Estimates, based on relevant data from the past decade, show that between 40,000 and 80,000 black women in the U.S. become victims of sexual predators every year, and a significantly larger number of rapes and other forms of sexual violence against African American women remain unreported.
A CENTURIES-OLD PRACTICE
According to data from the National Black Women’s Justice Institute, African American women in the U.S. are disproportionately more exposed to the risk of sexual violence. One in five African American women in the U.S. is certain to experience rape, and as many as 41% of them experience at least one instance of sexual coercion or other forms of unwanted sexual contact.
For every reported rape of an African American woman in the U.S., according to the aforementioned institute, there are no less than 15 unreported cases of rape. This has been the case in the U.S. not just for decades, but for centuries.
STATE CRIME?
Is the passivity and lack of political will in the U.S. to further protect African American women from sexual violence a form of state crime against these women, and could a tribunal, which the author of these lines could establish with five or six colleagues who are legal experts, receive multimillion-dollar grants from NED to highlight these sexual crimes and the potential genocide against African American women in the U.S. that has unfortunately been ongoing for centuries?
The Chinese case and the “verdict” of the Uyghur Tribunal is significant for Serbs and other Europeans because it demonstrates a technique of manipulating human destinies, facts, international and criminal law for geopolitical purposes aimed at targeted confrontation with nations and states, according to a principle known in Serbian folk tradition from ancient times as “the judge sues you – the judge judges you” („Kadija te tuži, kadija ti sudi“).
